Orthotics are shoe inserts that are measured and fitted to correct abnormal biomechanics.
The most common of these are people with particularly flat feet (over-pronaters) and those with high arches (supinators). Altered biomechanics can place unnecessary strain on certain structures and muscles of the leg and lower back and over a period of time result in injury, especially in activities such as running. Orthotics help to change angles in the foot so that muscles and joints work more efficiently.
We at South Tipp Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic are specialised in assessing and treating abnormal biomechanics and movement. We have undergone further education in this area and are specialised in the fitting of orthotics and insoles, of which there are many on the market.
- Plantarfasciitis (heel pain and sole of foot pain)
- Metatarsalgia (pain under ball of foot)
- Morton’s neuroma (nerve pain under ball of foot/ between toes)
- Toe pain/bunions
- Ankle pain
- Achilles tendonopathy
- Shin splints/ medial tibia stress syndrome
- Knee pain/ patellofemoral maltracking
- Hip pain
- Groin pain
- Pelvic pain
- Low back pain
There are many varieties of insole and orthotic that we recommend at our clinic in all price ranges (starting from 20 euro) and that form different functions. Whether you are an athlete, spend a lot of time on your feet or enjoy an occasional walk, the correctly prescribed insole can provide immediate pain relief.
At South Tipp Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic, our Chartered Physiotherapists will carry out a full thorough examination and biomechanical assessment. Often treatment alone without any additional insoles will correct biomechanical dysfunctions.
We use Irish laboratories to turn our casted moulds into orthotics with a turnaround time of approximately 2 weeks.
